“Photography is the story I fail to put into words.”
Photography is in my blood. I picked up my first dslr camera (Canon EOS 350D film camera) many moons ago. I was mainly interested in landscape photography but was more just a "point the camera at some scenery and hope for the best" type of photographer. I learnt a few things here and there and got lucky with my shots occasionally but it was still just a hobby. Many years, many cameras and many dollars later I decided to take it a bit more seriously. I started to read articles on the internet, read books, practise more often and learn from my mistakes. I noticed I was getting better shots more consistently and I was getting more and more compliments from friends and family. I decided it was time to start putting myself out there and trying to take my hobby more seriously.
For my main 9-5 job I work in IT as a software developer. This came in very handy when putting this website together. But on weekends I'm out taking photos, hiking, mountain biking, skiing or snowboarding or something else just as adventurous. I love being out in nature, which I guess is why landscape photography appeals to me. I like getting out to places a lot of people never go to and capturing its beauty. I got very lucky being born in New Zealand due to it being the most stunning country in the world which lends itself well to landscape photography. Even though I have been specialising in landscapes, as of late I have also been doing a bit of portrait photography and have done a little bit of wedding photography for friends. The people element is something that really interests me and something I want to do a lot more of. I would like to be able to blend my love for landscape photography with the human element.
